Service Alerts For Red Line Close
  • Shuttle
    Buses replace Red Line service between Park Street and Kendall/MIT Stations on December 16 & 17 and January 6 & 7 and 13 & 14 due to the Longfellow Bridge Project.

    Red Line train service will resume at the start of service on the following Monday. All shuttle bus stops are accessible for persons with disabilities.
    Customers should expect delays in service due to speed restrictions for a minimum of 48 hours after the weekend track work.

    Shuttling the following stops:
    Kendall/MIT (pick-up/drop-off at Marriott Hotel)
    Charles/MGH (inbound shuttle buses at Cambridge St @ Grove St, outbound at Cambridge St @ Charles St near the Liberty Hotel)
    Park Street (pick-up/drop-off on Tremont St @ Temple Place)

  • Shuttle (Upcoming)
    Shuttle buses replace Red Line service between North Quincy & Braintree Stations on Sunday - Thursday from approximately 9:00 pm through the end of service.

    In preparation for the Wollaston Station closure, shuttle buses will replace Red Line service in both directions between Braintree and North Quincy Stations. These evening shuttles are scheduled to occur every Sunday through Thursday night through January 25.

    Evening shuttles will NOT occur on the following dates:
    - Sunday, December 24 through Thursday, December 28
    - Sunday, December 31 through Thursday, January 4
    - Monday, January 15.
    All shuttle bus stops are accessible for persons with disabilities.
    Regularly scheduled service will resume at the start of service the following day.

    Shuttling the following stops:
    North Quincy
    Wollaston
    Quincy Center
    Quincy Adams
    Braintree

  • Station Closure (Upcoming)
    Wollaston Station will close Monday, January 8, for renovation. Free bus shuttles will run from Wollaston to North Quincy and Quincy Center.

    Wollaston will be transformed into a modern, fully accessible facility, making the entirety of the Red Line 100% accessible.
    Trains will bypass Wollaston station traveling between North Quincy and Quincy Center. Shuttle buses will run between Wollaston and North Quincy stations with the same frequency as the Red Line.
    Shuttle bus stops will be fully accessible.

  • Service Change (Ongoing)
    Red Line Notice: Due to ongoing track work, Red Line trains will use reduced speeds between Kendall/MIT and Charles/MGH until further notice.

    Due to track work from the Longfellow Bridge Rehabilitation Project, a speed restriction is in place between Kendall/MIT and Charles/MGH.
    Customers may experience minor delays in service and should allow extra time for their commute.

    The cab stand at Quincy Center Station will be shifted approximately 50 feet to the east until December 2018 to accommodate passengers during the Wollaston Station Improvement Project.

  • Station Issue (Ongoing)
    The pedestrian bridge at the Braintree Parking Garage will be closed through Summer 2020 due to construction.

    For access to Braintree Station during this closure, travel down to the first floor and use the pedestrian crosswalk to enter the station at the street level.
    This closure is due to the South Shore Parking Garages Improvements and Renovations Project. The pedestrian bridge will be replaced by a new garage lobby featuring elevators and stairwells.

  • Station Issue (Ongoing)
    The pedestrian walkway near Kendall/MIT Station (inbound) is closed until further notice due to MIT construction.

    Access to the Kendall/MIT Station will remain open and accessible on the Main Street side of the station throughout this construction.
    The pedestrian plaza between Carleton Street and Main Street in Kendall Square will be closed due to the construction of an underground garage.
    Customers are encouraged to utilize alternative paths to/from the station using the paths on Ames Street, Dock Street, or Wadsworth Street.

  • Station Issue (Ongoing)
    The elevators at Tufts Medical Center will be out of service through April 2018 due to construction.

    The elevators are being taken out of service to facilitate the replacement of the elevator cabs, hydraulic machines, and associated electrical work.
    Shuttle bus service will be provided between Tufts Medical Center (Washington St entrance) and Back Bay Stations. Customers in need of shuttle bus service are asked to see station personnel or utilize a station call box to request assistance.
    As an alternative, customers can also utilize Silver Line service to Chinatown Station.

    After crossing Causeway St, pedestrians will use a protected walkway along the east side of Legends Way, directly abutting Portal Park. The walkway will include a barrier and kick-plate for blind and low vision passengers.
    As an alternative, customers may consider utilizing the west exit from North Station Commuter Rail due to congestion.

    Shuttle buses between Kenmore, St. Mary's, and Fenway, replacing Green C branch from Kenmore to St. Mary's and Green D branch from Kenmore to Fenway on December 16 & 17.

    Due to MBTA crews performing necessary track work, a shuttle bus will operate between Kenmore, St. Mary's (C branch), and Fenway (D branch), replacing Green Line C branch trains between Kenmore and St. Mary's in both directions as well as Green Line D branch trains between Kenmore and Fenway in both directions on Saturday, December 16, and Sunday, December 17, from start to end of service.
    For westbound Green Line C branch service to St. Mary's and beyond, please board shuttle buses at Kenmore, disembark at St. Mary's, and board regular Green Line C branch train service. For eastbound Green Line C branch service to Kenmore and beyond, please board shuttle buses at St. Mary's, remain on the bus at Fenway, disembark at Kenmore, and board regular Green Line trolley service.
