Service Alerts For Fairmount Line Close
  • Shuttle
    Starting 6/5, the last 2 weekday outbound Fairmount Line trains, 787 (10:00 pm outbound) and 789 (11:00 pm outbound) will be replaced by buses due to construction of the new Blue Hill Avenue Station.

    Starting Saturday, June 3rd, major construction of the brand new, fully accessible Blue Hill Avenue Station on the Fairmount Line will take place on weekends and in the evening weekday hours for up to twenty-four months.
    During this time, the last two weeknight outbound Fairmount Line trains from South Station will be replaced with dedicated shuttle buses serving all stops between South Station and Readville.
    A schedule will be put into effect, effective September 9th, to account for busing, and is available on the Fairmount Line schedule page on mbta.com.

    Fairmount Line: A new schedule becomes effective Saturday, September 9th. Trains will operate between South Station and Readville unless buses are necessary on Saturdays due to the construction of Blue Hill Ave Station.

    Sunday September 10th:
    Trains WILL operate between South Station and Readville.

    Customers are advised that the pedestrian route for customers transferring from the Green and Orange Line exits at Causeway and Beverly St into North Station Commuter Rail will be moved slightly to accommodate ongoing construction work.
    After crossing Causeway St, pedestrians will use a protected walkway along the east side of Legends Way, directly abutting Portal Park. The walkway will include a barrier and kick-plate for blind and low vision passengers.
    As an alternative, customers may consider utilizing the west exit from North Station Commuter Rail due to congestion.

  • Shuttle (Upcoming)
    Shuttle buses will replace service on the Worcester Line between Wellesley Farms and South Station on 9/16-9/17 and 9/23-9/24 from start to end of service.

    Service will be suspended between Wellesley Farms and South Station in both directions from start to end of service on Saturday, 9/16 to Sunday, 9/17 as well as on Saturday, 9/23 to Sunday, 9/24. During this time, crews will be performing necessary track work for a new interlocking system in the Brighton area.
    Inbound Framingham/Worcester Line service will terminate at Wellesley Farms, where passengers can connect with shuttle buses to Newton, Back Bay, and South Station. Passengers desiring outbound service from South Station or Back Bay must board shuttle buses to Wellesley Farms for a Commuter Rail connection. Shuttle buses will also depart from Newtonville, West Newton, and Auburndale to Wellesley Farms for outbound a Commuter Rail connection.
    There will be no shuttle bus connection to/from Yawkey and Boston Landing stations.. For these stations, consider local bus service or the Green Line to connect to Back Bay.
    There will be no direct service between Newton and Boston in either direction (Auburndale, West Newton, & Newtonville) and passengers may consider taking the Green Line from Riverside.
    Passengers should allow additional travel time of approximately 20-30 minutes. Outbound trains will depart Wellesley Farms on the scheduled departure time.
    A portable lift will be available at Wellesley Farms, as this station does not have a miniature high-level platform.
    Customers should note that bikes are not permitted on board the shuttle buses during this temporary weekend service change.

    Due to the Merrimack River Bridge project, trains that operate between Bradford and Haverhill will only use the inbound track. Trains that are bused between Haverhill and Bradford will board on the outbound platform at Bradford for service into Boston. Note:
    Train 216 (1:35 pm from Haverhill) and Train 222 (6:09 pm from Haverhill) are bused from Haverhill Station to Bradford Station. The outbound platform at Bradford may be accessed via the crossing that is south (to the right when facing the tracks from the parking lot) of the mini-high platforms. Alternatively, the outbound platform can also be accessed via the sidewalk from Laurel Avenue.

    Shuttle buses, operating between Haverhill and Oak Grove, will replace all weekend service on the Haverhill Line from September 23rd through December 2nd due to the installation of PTC.

    To help passengers travel between Boston and Haverhill, the MBTA is running ADA accessible bus shuttles (with WiFi and restroom facilities) that will make stops at every Commuter Rail station between Haverhill and Wyoming Hill, terminating at OAK GROVE for an Orange Line connection to Boston. Shuttle buses will NOT make stops at Malden Center or North Station.
    During this time, the MBTA will install federally mandated Positive Train Control (PTC) systems along the Haverhill Line to improve safety by reducing train collisions and derailments. This work will require weekend shutdowns on the entire line from September 23 through December 2.

    Shuttle buses, making all stops, will replace all weekend service on the Lowell Line from August 5th through October 1st due to the installation of PTC.

This work will require weekend shutdowns on the entire line from August 5 through October 1. To help passengers travel between Boston and Lowell, the MBTA is running ADA accessible bus shuttles (with WiFi and restroom facilities) that will make stops at every Commuter Rail station.
    Lowell bus shuttle tickets are $4 one-way, and monthly passes will be accepted. Tickets can be purchased on-board, at the North Station Ticket Office, or at the Charlie van outside North Station on the corner of Haverhill and Causeway streets.

    To get around on the Needham Line during construction, please utilize the following connecting bus/subway service:
    - From Needham Heights, Needham Center, and Needham Junction, the Route 59 bus service connects to Newton Highlands on the Green Line D Branch and to Watertown Square.
    - From West Roxbury, Highland, Bellevue, and Roslindale Village, Bus Routes 35, 36, and 37 connect to and from Forest Hills on the Orange Line, which also serves Ruggles and Back Bay.
    - Customers who typically board at Hersey Station are encouraged to travel to Needham Junction or West Roxbury Stations instead as there are no direct connecting MBTA services at Hersey.

    Rockport Line mid-day weekday service (9:30 am to 3:30 pm) will be bused between Gloucester and Rockport stations from Monday, August 28th through Friday, October 6th due to the installation of new rail.

    Due to installation of new rail, bus service will be provided between Gloucester and Rockport stations for select trains in both directions on the following dates:
    - Weekdays ONLY from Monday, August 28th through Friday, October 6th, 2017
    - Note:
    Regular Sunday train service will operate on Monday, September 4th in observance of the Labor Day holiday
    Buses will depart Rockport at the train's scheduled departure time. Inbound trains will depart Gloucester when the bus arrives. Customers should allow additional travel time anticipating delays of approximately twenty (20) minutes.
