Service

• Bowdoin Station Closure

  Bowdoin station will be closed through end of service today, March 24. Riders can use Government Center, a four minute walk from Bowdoin. There will be longer wait times between trains throughout this work.
  

  This work will also take place on the weekends of April 11 - 14 & 25 - 28
  
  Crowding:
  Riders should expect crowding at stations during peak travel times today. If possible, riders are encouraged to travel outside of peak hours.
  
  Train Frequency:
  Riders should expect increased wait times for Blue Line trains during this work. Expect trains every 8 to 10 minutes on weekdays. Expect trains every 9 to 13 minutes during the weekend.
  
  Airport Bus Alternatives:
  Riders travelling between Downtown Boston and Airport Station can use the SL1 or SL3 Bus. The SL1 runs every 15 minutes or better between South Station and Logan Airport Terminals. The SL3 Bus runs every 15 minutes or better between South Station and Airport Station.

Elevator & Escalator

• Bowdoin Escalator Closure Ongoing

  Bowdoin Escalator 125 (Lobby to street) is unavailable until further notice pending replacement.
  The escalator will remain out of service for the foreseeable future. This decision was made after a thorough inspection determined that corrosion on the escalator’s steel truss was so severe that it could not be repaired further and that a complete replacement of the escalator would be required. Replacing the escalator at this location requires a more extended unit meeting modern escalator safety requirements. This longer unit will require significant alteration to the station entrance to meet code requirements. The MBTA has currently begun design work to understand what station upgrades will be needed.
  Due to these complexities, we expect the escalator will remain out of service for a significant time. We recognize the challenges this poses to our riders, and please know we are working to identify a solution as quickly as possible. In the meantime, Government Center Station, which is fully accessible and serves the Blue Line, is under a quarter-mile from Bowdoin Station.

• Aquarium Escalator Closure Ongoing

  Aquarium Escalator 405 (Unpaid lobby to Atlantic Avenue) is undergoing a complete overhaul. We are working to complete this work as quickly and safely as possible. Passengers can use the adjacent elevator for access between the lobby and Atlantic Ave.
• Aquarium Escalator Closure Ongoing

  Aquarium Escalator 406 (Atlantic Avenue to unpaid lobby) is undergoing a complete overhaul. We are working to complete this work as quickly and safely as possible. Passengers can use the adjacent elevator for access between Atlantic Ave and the lobby.
