Weekend Orange Line Service Suspended between Sullivan and North Stations

BOSTON - April 27, 2016 - Over the next two weekends, Orange Line train service between Sullivan and North Stations will be suspended as workers continue to make the subway more resilient to harsh winter weather conditions. This Saturday and Sunday, and again next Saturday and Sunday (May 7 & 8), Orange Line service will be suspended in both directions from start to the end of service. Bus service will be provided as a temporary alternative.

As part of Phase II of the Winter Resiliency Project, crews will remove and replace existing third rail heater elements with a new heater infrastructure, and make repairs to rail and switches. Buses will replace Orange Line trains the following weekends:

- Saturday, April 30, 2016, through Sunday, May 1, 2016.
- Saturday, May 7, 2016, through Sunday, May 8, 2016.

Shuttling the following stops:
Sullivan
Community College
North Station

Regular Orange Line train service will resume at the start of service on Monday. All shuttle bus stops are accessible for persons with disabilities.

The Winter Resiliency Plan, which was started last year, is designed to address critically needed improvements to the MBTA's infrastructure, equipment, and operations. To date, the project has included: Nearly 70,000 linear feet of brand new third rail between JFK/UMass Station and Quincy on the Red Line; More than 36,000 linear feet of "Heater Element Infrastructure," which includes the conduit, wiring, and junction boxes to support the Red Line's third rail heating systems; 200,000 linear feet of new wiring for the Orange Line's third rail heating system; and 5,321 linear feet of snow fencing along Orange Line tracks.
