The Green Line Program is upgrading service on the T’s most popular light rail line.

This program will improve reliability and quality of service for riders and communities served by this line. Achieving this requires major upgrades to tracks, signals, stations, facilities and vehicles.

Levels of Transformation

The Green Line Program portfolio of projects is aligned by multiple Levels of Transformation, including:

We will upgrade infrastructure to lower the risk of high-impact events such as:

  • Collisions: A new train protection system
  • Derailments: Track and rail upgrades
  • Flooding: Water pumps and steel doors at Fenway Portal

These infrastructure upgrades will also have the following benefits:

  • Improve on-time performance to up to 90%
  • Remove speed restrictions by upgrading tracks and signals
