Tunnel Preparation Work Begins at the Dorchester Avenue Bridge

We’re replacing the bridge that carries vehicles, pedestrians, and bicyclists over the Red Line.

This project will bring the bridge to a State of Good Repair, improving safety, resiliency, and reliability of the Red Line.  

What to Expect During This Work

Crews will complete pre-construction work inside the tunnel, including concrete wall repairs and structural steel installation. This work is to prepare for the bridge replacement planned to begin in spring 2022.

Service Impacts

Shuttles run between Broadway and JFK/UMass on the following weekends:

  • September 18 – 19
  • November 6 – 7
  • November 20 – 21
  • December 4 – 5
  • December 11 – 12 
  • December 18 – 19
  • January 15 – 16 (Canceled)
  • January 22 – 23 (Canceled)
  • February 26 – 27 (Canceled)
  • March 5 – 6
