MBTA: Alewife Station Update

Posted on February 7, 2023

Parking garage at Alewife to partially reopen, Station remains closed following Saturday’s car crash.

Customers may ride shuttle buses stationed at Alewife’s busway.

The MBTA today announced that the parking garage at Alewife Station will partially reopen on Wednesday, February 8. Garage levels G, 2, 3, and 4 will reopen to drivers. Level 5 will remain closed, and there will be no access to the Lobby floor.

The MBTA continues to repair damage from a vehicle that crashed into the top floor of the Alewife parking garage on Saturday, sending a barrier and concrete debris onto the station below.

Shuttle buses have replaced Red Line service between Alewife and Davis. Customers will board these shuttle buses at the busway at Alewife Station. MBTA staff and Transit Ambassadors remain present during service hours to assist customers. Signs also direct customers to the bus shuttle area.

The MBTA is working to resume Red Line service this week utilizing the Russell Field headhouse, which is a two-minute walk from the garage.

Before the headhouse can be used, the T needs to provide riders with a safe and accessible pathway. The T is currently installing signage and lighting along a path and providing customers access through a tunnel under the Alewife Brook Parkway to reach the headhouse.

The T will continue to provide updates on the status of the Alewife Station, garage, and Russell Field headhouse as they become available. The MBTA appreciates the patience of the public as necessary repairs are made.

For alternate transit and parking options, riders can use the online Trip Planner tool at mbta.com/trip-planner.
