GREEN LINE UPDATE: Service Resuming between North Station & Government Center, Effective Immediately
Posted on April 9, 2022
Following the removal of more than a hundred tons of debris directly above the Green Line, MBTA structural engineers this week meticulously inspected the tunnel, took precise measurements, and searched carefully for any signs of damage above or below the surface.
Based on the comprehensive inspections, it has been determined that the Green Line tunnel, including the shared wall between the Green Line and Orange Line, is structurally sound. Following the successful testing of trains in the tunnel, Green Line service can safely resume between North Station and Government Center Station.
Structural engineers will continue to closely monitor the tunnel during daily Green Line operations.
Green Line and Orange Line trains continue to bypass Haymarket Station while personnel complete some repair work on the standpipe system, which was damaged by debris from the garage collapse.
The MBTA thanks all of its riders for their patience during this period of debris removal, infrastructure assessment, and service restoration.
