Green and Orange Line Service Changes This Week
Posted on March 27, 2022
With the safety of riders and employees its top priority, the MBTA will keep Green Line and Orange Line rail service suspended in the tunnels beneath the site of Saturday’s tragic accident at the Government Center parking garage. The T will not resume rail service through this area until a team of structural engineers, examining and assessing infrastructure above and below the surface, confirms that subway service can safely resume. The T will provide service updates to customers as this inspection work continues, but anticipates these service impacts could last for several days.
Orange Line service will be suspended between North Station and Back Bay while Green Line service will not operate between North Station and Government Center. Shuttle buses will operate between North Station and Government Center. Orange Line customers with destinations between Downtown Crossing and Back Bay are encouraged to use the nearby Green Line stations between Park and Copley Stations.
It is also recommended that Orange Line customers headed downtown in the Oak Grove-bound direction take the Commuter Rail from Ruggles or Back Bay to South Station. Customers can show their CharlieCard to the conductor for access.
For Haymarket Station-bound bus riders, the Routes 92, 93, and 111 will be diverted to North Station, where northbound customers can transfer to the subway and southbound customers can transfer to the bus shuttle or walk to Government Center for Green Line service.
Extra MBTA personnel and Transit Ambassadors will be on hand to assist customers this week. Additional accessibility vans will also be available – interested customers should ask MBTA personnel for information.
Because of expected delays as buses navigate downtown streets, the MBTA also encourages commuters directly impacted by the tunnel closures to consider working from home while diversions are in place, if they are able to do so.
