Silver Line Tunnel Gets Engineering Assessment

Construction activity on Congress Street in the immediate vicinity of World Trade Center Station on the Silver Line resulted in loose pieces of concrete falling onto the inbound platform of the station.
In the interest of public safety, the MBTA temporarily closed the Silver Line tunnel from South Station to Silver Line Way on April 4.
The MBTA ordered an engineering assessment to determine the extent of any structural damage that may have been caused by the adjacent construction project. Out of an abundance of caution for T customers and employees, the MBTA closed the Silver Line tunnel from South Station to Silver Line Way until that assessment was complete. There were no known injuries as a result of this incident.
The MBTA ran replacement bus service on surface streets until the tunnel was cleared for safe use. Buses stopped at all normal stops between South Station and Silver Line Way. The T deployed additional personnel at each station to provide customer assistance.
