New routing for Alewife-bound MBTA bus routes to reduce travel time

Posted on December 8, 2016

BOSTON – Beginning December 31, the MBTA will update the inbound routing of Bus Routes 62, 67, 76, and 84 (and 62/76 on Saturdays) toward Alewife Station to travel via Acorn Park Drive. This update will allow buses to avoid traffic on Route 2, saves through-riders travel time, and improves the bus stop for travelers to and from destinations along Acorn Park Drive.

The new routing is a collaboration between the MBTA, the City of Cambridge, the Department of Conservation and Recreation, and Discovery Park and comes as a result of frequent requests from customers and bus operators. The MBTA estimates it will save between two and eight minutes of travel time during peak hours on average, reduce scheduling variability, and provide better, safer access to destinations at Acorn Park Drive. The inbound bus stop currently located at Route 2 East @ Overpass will be deactivated when the MBTA begins service to the new ADA-compliant bus stop placed on Acorn Park Drive.
