Event Description

Join the MBTA's Community Engagement team for a panel to discuss the critical role of intersectionality in advancing equity in transit planning with support from Women's Transportation Seminar (WTS) Boston, The Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO), and Co:Census.

Topics of discussion include:

  • Understanding intersectionality: Explore how identities such as race, gender, disability, and socioeconomic status shape transit experiences.
  • Breaking barriers: Learn strategies to address systemic challenges and foster inclusive infrastructure development.
  • Community engagement: Discover best practices for promoting equity in transit decision-making processes.

  • Desiree Patrice, Chief of Integrated Transit Programs, MBTA
  • Gwendolyn Purifoye, Assistant Professor of Racial Justice and Conflict Transformation, Keough School of Global Affairs and the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies
  • Elizabeth Williams, Director of Equity and Climate Policy, MassDOT
  • Dana McKinney White, Assistant Professor of Urban Design, Harvard University
