MBTA Internships

At the MBTA, we recognize our future starts with you. We're committed to investing in a pipeline of dedicated, hardworking people to fill open jobs and grow within our organization.
We offer paid internships for college (undergraduate and graduate), vocational, and high school students in the spring, summer, and fall. Our interns get on-the-job training with the nation's oldest public transportation system.

About Our Internships
MBTA interns gain valuable skills, knowledge, and experience that can open doors to career opportunities in transportation and beyond.
Schedule
- Work 15 – 40 hours/week. Schedules vary based on intern availability and school policies.
- Internships may last for a few weeks to several months, depending on the role.
Benefits
- Earn $16.50 – $28/hour.
- Use the T for free throughout your internship (subway, bus, Commuter Rail, and ferry).
Eligibility
MBTA interns must meet these requirements:
- Be a full- or part-time student at an accredited educational institution throughout the internship
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 (undergraduate and graduate students)
- Live in the Boston area
- Pass a pre-employment screening and criminal background check
- Be authorized to work in the United States; the MBTA does not sponsor visas. Note: International students in CPT, STEM, or OPT programs through a university are eligible to apply.
- Adhere to MBTA rules, regulations, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and policies, including the EEO, anti-discrimination, anti-harassment, anti-retaliation, and dress code policies
