See Red Line Work We Completed December 13 – 15
Updated on December 17, 2019
During 4 weekend shutdowns from November 15 – December 15, 2019, we closed sections of the Red Line to work on track replacement and station improvements. These closures allowed us to complete work at Park Street 4 months earlier than planned and at Downtown Crossing 11 months earlier than planned.
This project, in conjunction with slab replacements we’re working on in 2020, will keep the tracks in a state of good repair and will support the new Red Line vehicles coming into service.
We thank you for your patience during these closures.

As part of our $9.6 billion, 5-year capital investment plan, we're renovating stations, modernizing fare collection systems, upgrading services for our buses, subways, and ferries, and improving the accessibility of the entire system.
Weekend 4: What We Completed
During the final weekend shutdown, our crews replaced 424 feet of track on Park Street’s southbound side.
We also completed work at Downtown Crossing:
- Installed new rubber flooring in the Alewife passageway
- Installed two new signs and repaired the wall on the Alewife platform
- Repaired platform edges throughout the area
