Friday's Storm Conditions Likely to Have Service Impacts on MBTA

Posted on March 1, 2018

BOSTON—Friday’s forecast calls for a severe coastal storm, which will include sustained gale force winds, heavy rain, and astronomically high tides. Conditions are such that they are expected to cause flooding, which may also be accompanied by late-day ice and snow conditions.

Based on the current forecast, the MBTA is planning for significant impacts to the Rockport/Newburyport and Haverhill commuter rail lines, as well as the Blue Line.

Given the high likelihood of interruptions to regular service, the MBTA will implement alternate transportation modes to replace services vulnerable to coastal storm surges. For customers using these services to commute to places of employment, please consider the possibility of significant delays or cancellations for the afternoon commute home on Friday.

Please be informed and monitor the MBTA website, @mbta and @mbta_cr on Twitter, MBTA alerts, as well as broadcast media.
