FITCHBURG -- Retired Gardner resident Paul Suihkonen's long wait for the train ended Friday when the first Fitchburg Line cars rolled into the new Wachusett Commuter Rail Station at 7:48 a.m.
"You don't have to drive into Fitchburg. Right off the highway, boom, you're here. That's a beautiful thing," said Suihkonen, who added he has waited for "years" for the train station to finally open.
The new station, which is at 55 Authority Road near routes 2 and 31 in West Fitchburg, will make train rides into Boston easier, he said.
