Failure to Stop or Slow for a Railroad Crossing
There are many accidents involving motor vehicles and trains each year. If you come across a railroad crossing with the gates down and/or lights flashing do not attempt to cross the railroad crossing. After the train passes through the crossing, do not pass by the gates or flashing lights, there may be another train approaching from the opposite direction. Proceed through the railroad crossing only after the gates raise and the lights stop flashing.
Transit Police Officers are serious about saving lives. According to Massachusetts General Law, Chapter 90 Section 15, if you pass through a railroad crossing while the gates are down and lights flashing the Transit Police have the authority to issue you a Massachusetts Uniform Citation and a two hundred dollar fine.
