Summer 2023 Service Changes

This summer, we're revising bus service schedules to better reflect service that will operate. Last season, MBTA bus service schedules did not always reflect bus arrival times due to operator shortages and not enough drivers to run routes daily. These changes in scheduled service will allow us to improve service delivery by decreasing long gaps/trip cancellations. Most subway lines will also experience service changes.

Subway Service Changes

Effective July 2, 2023

The following changes to Green, Orange, and Blue Line service will remain in effect for the summer season. There will be no service changes to the Red and Mattapan lines.

Route	16	Change	Until 10 PM on weekdays, and on Saturday mornings, Route 16 trips currently on Boston St (except articulated buses) will instead serve South Bay Center. Route 17 will continue to serve Boston St.
Route	28	Change	For the summer only, there will be no inbound Route 28 that continues from Ruggles Station to Avenue Louis Pasteur. This trip will resume in the fall.
Route	29	Change	From 8 PM until the end of service on weekdays, and on Saturdays, Route 29 will no longer operate between Jackson Square Station and Ruggles Station. Route 22 will continue to operate between these two stations.
Route	85	Change	Due to construction, Route 85 will terminate at Bow St through August 2023. The regular routing will resume in September 2023.
Route	90	Change	Outbound Route 90 will extend via Tufts St and Washington St to better serve the new East Somerville Green Line Station.
Route	99	Change	The Woodland Rd outbound final stop/inbound first stop on Route 99 will shift to the east parking lot.
Route	106	Change	Inbound weekday trips between 6:30 PM and 8 PM will extend to Forest St and Sylvan St.
Route	117	Change	Trips shift in the early morning on all days of the week due to the Sumner Tunnel closure and buses needing to use the Ted Williams Tunnel.
Route	134	Change	On Sundays, Route 134 service after 8 PM will extend to Playstead Rd.
Route	137	Change	3:58 PM inbound trip will end at Oak Grove Station on weekdays.
Route	230	Change	Mid-afternoon weekday service to the Holbrook Housing Authority will be restored. The 5:40 AM inbound trip to Braintree Station will extend to Quincy Center Station.
Route	450	Change	Due to the Sumner Tunnel closure, Route 450 will terminate at Wood Island Station instead of Haymarket Station on weekdays.

Ferry Service Changes

Weekend service starts again for the Hingham/Hull ferry (F2H), and it will make stops at George's Island on weekdays.

Sumner Tunnel Closure

The Sumner Tunnel will be closed from Friday, July 5 until Monday, August 5. There will be additional weekend closures both before and after this month-long closure.
