Changes to Bus Routes 5 and 16

Effective September 1, 2019

How This Route is Changing

Route 5 service will be eliminated and replaced with service on the 10 and 16.

Route 10 provides service between Andrew and City Point. Route 16 provides service between Andrew and McCormack Housing. We’re also adding service to JFK/UMass and McCormack Housing on Route 16, midday weekdays and on Saturdays.

What You Can Expect

If you take Route 5...

  • Between City Point and Andrew, take the 10 from your current stop.
  • Between Andrew and McCormack Housing or JFK UMass, take the 16 from your current stop.
  • Between City Point and McCormack Housing or JFK UMass, take the 10 to Andrew and then transfer to the 16.

If you take Route 16...

  • To or from South Bay Mall @ Stop and Shop, your new stop is South Bay Mall @ Allstate Rd. This change also affects riders on Routes 8 and 10.
  • Between Andrew and JFK/UMass, you can now take the 16 between 9:30 AM – 6:30 PM on weekdays and 9:30 AM – 3:24 PM on Saturdays.
  • To or from the UMass Boston Busway, your new stop could be Mt Vernon St @ South Point Dr. Or, take the UMass shuttle for service to between Mt. Vernon St and UMass Boston.
  • From any other stop, your service is unchanged

Why We're Making This Change

By reinvesting the resources currently dedicated to Route 5, we can provide better service on Route 16 to McCormack Housing and JFK/UMass.
