Accessible Services

The CharlieCard Store provides the following services for eligible customers with disabilities and senior citizens.  (Click here to learn more about the different types of Reduced Fare CharlieCards available as well as eligibility requirements.)

  • Processes requests for Transportation Access Pass (TAP) CharlieCards to eligible persons with disabilities.
  • Processes requests for MBTA Blind Access CharlieCards to MA Commission for the Blind card holders.
  • Processes requests for Senior CharlieCards to persons 65+.
  • Adds value to a customer's RIDE account (at the Back Bay office only)

Location and Hours of Operation:

Customers who require reduced fare CharlieCard services can now visit the CharlieCard Store in downtown Boston. Adjacent to the Red and Orange Lines at Downtown Crossing Station, the CharlieCard Store is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The store is closed weekends and holidays.

Please note: The accessible entrance is located at 32 Summer St. via the 101 Arch St. building, Boston.

THE RIDE Account Deposits

Registered users of THE RIDE can add value to their accounts via cash, check, money order or credit/debit cards at the CharlieCard Store. Deposits can also be made over the phone using a MasterCard, VISA, American Express, or Discover card.  Call 617-222-3200 or 617-222-5854 (TTY). Deposits can also be made via the web. Senior/TAP CharlieCard Outreach Services

The MBTA has partnered with a number of local senior centers to enable them to help seniors and people with disabilities sign up for CharlieCards without having to travel into Boston. Contact your local senior center to find out if they’re a participating agency.
