Reduced Fares

T fares and passes are reduced for seniors, persons with disabilities, blind persons and junior-high and high school students. Children 11 and under ride for free when accompanied by a paying adult.

Seniors

Seniors (65+) ride the T for 50% or more off the price of standard T fares and are also eligible for a $20/month Senior Pass good for unlimited travel on Local Bus and Subway. No discounts apply to Express Bus passes, Commuter Rail passes or Boat passes.

Discounted rides and passes require a Senior ID available at the Senior & Access Pass Office located at Back Bay Station or at the Senior/T.A.P. ID Center at Downtown Crossing Station (located on the Summer Street Subway Concourse between Washington and Chauncy Streets). Office hours for both locations are Monday through Friday, 8:30a.m. - 5:00p.m. (closed on holidays). Call 617-222-5976, 617-222-5854 (TTY), 1-800-543-8287.

Customers with existing MBTA Senior IDs issued prior to May/June 2005, must obtain a new Senior ID, available at the two locations noted above.

Persons with Disabilities

Students

Students ride the T for 50% off the price of standard T fares and are eligible for a $20/month Student T-Pass good for unlimited travel on Bus, Subway, Express Bus, and Commuter Rail Zones 1A, 1 and 2 until 8p.m. on school days.

Discounted rides or passes require a Student CharlieCard or CharlieTicket, available at participating junior high and high schools. See your school administrator for details.

Children 11 and under

Up to two children ride for free when accompanied by a paying adult. No ID required.

Blind Persons

Free travel on all MBTA service with a Blind Access Card from MBTA. Blind Access Cards require an ID from the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind. If accompanied by a guide, free travel does extend to the guide.
