Welcome to the MBTA Materials Management page. The Materials Management Department administers the procurement of Goods, Services (including certain Professional Services Contracts), Vehicles, and any other procurement category to support the activities of all MBTA departments. The Materials Management Department also disposes of the MBTA's obsolete and scrap material.
Materials Management is organized into the following groups:
- Vehicle/Systems Procurement
- Inventory Procurement
- Non-Inventory Procurement
The Vehicle/Systems Procurement Department supports the Authority's capital program related to revenue service vehicles and complex system initiatives. This includes the purchase of and subsequent contract administration efforts for new vehicles, overhaul programs, and new systems programs.
In addition to procurement, the Materials Management Department manages the MBTA mailroom, receives, stores, and issues materials, equipment, and supplies, to support the activities of MBTA departments. Materials Management inventory is located in two central stockrooms which distribute to 17 satellite locations and many other non-inventory locations, where bus and subway equipment maintenance is performed.
Working closely with the Office of Diversity and Civil Rights (ODCR), the Materials Management Department makes concerted efforts to maximize Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) involvement in procurement opportunities.
