Ashmont Station Renovation

Ashmont Station is an intermodal station, serving the Red Line subway, the Mattapan Trolley, and buses. A construction contract was awarded to Barletta Heavy Division, Inc. in August 2005. The MBTA Construction contract calls for complete station reconstruction and modernization. The design creates a major new entrance and pedestrian-friendly plaza to interact with the urban design characteristics of Peabody Square, while integrating all three-transit modes into a customer friendly, accessible, well-lit and secure station.

The new Ashmont Station construction will be integrated on site with a privately constructed transit-oriented development project consisting of six stories of mixed income housing with ground floor retail space. Coordination of the station reconstruction, transit-oriented development construction, and temporary relocation of existing bus service at Ashmont Station will make this a particularly challenging construction effort.

The Mattapan High Speed Trolley Line, which shares a terminus at Ashmont Station, is scheduled to have its stations and platforms rehabilitated as part of a parallel station maintenance program.

Construction related inquiries during the reconstruction of Ashmont Station should be directed to the Red Line Reconstruction Hotline at 617-222-6757.
