MBTA Commemorates Phase One of the Bus Network Redesign
The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) hosted a Route 104 ride along today to celebrate the launch of the Bus Network Redesign (BNR) Phase One, which officially went into effect December 15.

Phase 1 will affect six bus routes where service will increase by 60%. Four Frequent Bus Routes will operate every 15 minutes or better. MBTA staff will be at key bus stops and stations through December 20 to assist riders with information and support.

MBTA Celebrates 24th Annual Fill-A-Bus with Gifts Event
The 24th Annual Fill-A-Bus with Gifts is sponsored by the MBTA and MassDOT with toys provided to the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, the Boys and Girls Club of Boston, and Heading Home. This year, MBTA and MassDOT employees donated 2,651 gifts – the highest-ever toy count for the Fill-A-Bus gift drive.

When this service suspension is complete, the entire subway system will be free of slow zones. This notice serves as a reminder of the upcoming Green Line closure previously announced on November 15.

The MBTA continues to get ready for the Phase 1 launch of Bus Network Redesign. In addition to new signage and information already available onsite, MBTA staff will be in person December 5 – 20 at key bus stops and stations to answer questions from riders.

Red Line Now Slow Zone-Free for the First Time in At Least 20 Years
The Red Line is now completely free of all slow zones for the first time in at least 20 years, joining both the Blue and Orange lines as speed restriction-free. The Green Line will be free of its final speed restrictions following upcoming track work in December, making the entire subway system free of speed restrictions.

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA), along with state and local leaders, celebrated a commitment to rebuild Newtonville Station. The station is to become the first fully ADA accessible Commuter Rail station in Newton.

MBTA Launches New Mobile App — “MBTA Go”
The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) released its new, official mobile app, MBTA Go, a first of its kind for the organization. This initial release makes an early version available to riders with Apple iPhones. The MBTA plans to release a companion version for Android users in February 2025.

December Service Changes: MBTA Continues Repair Work to Improve Reliability Across the System
Service changes are planned on the Green, Fitchburg, Franklin, and Lowell lines. The December Green Line service change is the final service suspension as part of the Track Improvement Program and is expected to lift the last slow zones across all subway lines.
