MBTA Offers Four Special Fares, Extra Service for Sail Boston Events

BOSTON - The Sail Boston event will be held between Saturday, June 17, and Wednesday, June 21, and the MBTA is offering four special fare options to make traveling to and from the Grand Parade of Sail and the tall ships fast and easy. The MBTA is also operating special Sail Boston shuttle buses to and from the Parade of Sail and tall ships viewing points from JFK/UMass Station to Castle Island as well as from Sullivan Square Station to Charlestown Navy Yard.

The MBTA is offering four convenient Sail Boston Commemorative pass options:

$5 MBTA Sail Boston Shuttles-to-Ships Passes: Allows unlimited travel on MBTA Sail Boston express shuttle buses during the days the shuttles operate.
$25 Commodore Pass: Allows unlimited travel on subway and local buses from June 17 through June 21, including access to both MBTA Sail Boston shuttle bus options.
$15 Day Sailor Pass: Allows unlimited one-day travel on subway and local buses, including the MBTA Sail Boston shuttle buses, and is valid for twenty-four hours from a first trip on subway or local bus.
$35 Commuter Rail Day Sailor Pass: Allows unlimited one-day travel on any commuter rail line, subway line, and local bus, including the MBTA Sail Boston shuttle buses, and is valid for twenty-four hours from a first trip on subway or local bus for either Saturday, June 17, or Sunday, June 18.

Each of these special Sail Boston Commemorative fare options is available for purchase online at www.mbtasailboston.com through Tuesday, June 6. The special passes are also available beginning June 5 through June 21 at ticket offices in North Station, South Station, and Back Bay with the Shuttles-to-Ships Pass, Day Sailor Pass, and Commodore Pass also sold during the event at major subway stations. The Shuttles-to-Ships Passes are also available via the mTicket app from June 11 through June 22.

Two special MBTA Sail Boston shuttle buses will operate to and from areas of Boston with the best views for ship spectators. Shuttle buses will operate to and from JFK/UMass Station and Castle Island on Saturday, June 17, to accommodate those wishing to view Sail Boston's Parade of Sail and the tall ships. Shuttle buses will also operate to and from Sullivan Square Station and the Charlestown Navy Yard from Saturday, June 17, through Wednesday, June 21.

All subway lines will operate rush-hour levels of service from June 17 through June 21. The following Commuter Rail lines will be running additional trains during the morning and evening hours:

  • Fitchburg Line*
  • Framingham/Worcester Line*
  • Franklin Line
  • Haverhill Line*
  • Lowell Line
  • Middleborough/Lakeville Line*
  • Newburyport/Rockport Line
  • Providence/Stoughton Line

 *Additional service on these trains will only be available on Saturday, June 17.

To find the best Parade of Sail viewing location or to visit the tall ships from June 17 through June 21, customers are encouraged to visit the Sail Boston website to view maps of area street closures and pedestrian access points.

MBTA customers should also note Sail Boston's list of prohibited items, which includes coolers on wheels, backpacks, firearms, glass containers, cans, alcoholic beverages, grills, tents/canopies, bicycles, and pets (except service animals), among others.
