BOSTON - The MBTA has announced that beginning in early June 2017, construction of accessibility improvements and enhancements will begin at Mansfield Station on the Providence/Stoughton Commuter Rail Line in order to make the station fully accessible.

Improvements within the $7.5 million project include brand new pedestrian ramps, stairways to allow platforms to be accessible for inbound and outbound passengers, and replacement of the existing mini-high platforms, which are currently in poor condition with compliant mini-high platforms. Two temporary platforms are to be installed by construction contractor Barletta Heavy Division Inc., while the existing mini-high platforms are replaced in order to maintain public access.

Other accessibility improvements included within the project are the repaving of both platforms, new canopies, new tactile strips along both platforms, new lighting, guard rails, bollards, signage, curb cuts, and parking lot improvements for better accessibility. Anticipated construction time is up to twenty-four months.
