BOSTON – The MBTA is pleased to announce that on Saturday, April 1, Republic Parking System begins its five-year management contract to operate the MBTA’s parking system. The MBTA’s parking system of ten garages and ninety-one surface parking lots is one of the nation’s largest, at over 44,000 spaces.
Customers can expect a seamless transition as Republic begins its operation of the MBTA’s parking system – hours of operation, payment methods, and garage keycards will all remain the same – though you might notice a few changes on the first day of Republic’s operation of the MBTA parking system: new uniforms for staff, new vehicles enforcing the MBTA’s unattended parking facilities, and new signs.
A new mobile parking payment application option, Parkmobile
, will also roll out on Saturday. Parkmobile, which previously provided the MBTA’s mobile parking payment system until 2014, is one of the most popular parking applications nationwide, and provides mobile payment services for the cities of Somerville and Medford, among many others. Customers can download Parkmobile via the Apple Store

MBTA parking customers can also continue to use PayByPhone
, the existing mobile parking payment provider.
Over the coming months, MBTA parking customers can expect a number of improvements across the system, including facility enhancements, new parking products and options, and more real-time information about parking availability.
