Haverhill railroad bridge work to impact traffic patterns

Posted on September 6, 2016

BOSTON - Beginning this coming weekend, construction work on three bridges over the Merrimack River and Washington Street in Haverhill will affect traffic patterns for motorists. Work is scheduled for alternate weekends from September 9th through November 20th.

Contractors will work continuously over the weekends between September 9th and November 20th, from 8:30 p.m. Friday to 4:30 a.m. Monday on all three bridges on the Haverhill Commuter Rail Line, jacking up the structures to replace bearings as part of a major project to strengthen, clean and paint the bridges in downtown Haverhill.

Select inbound/outbound Haverhill Line trips will be replaced with shuttle buses. Customers should allow additional travel time and anticipate delays during these weekends. Customers are asked to check the MBTA website for up-to-date project and construction information.
