Important MBTA statement on today's Amtrak problems
Posted on April 17, 2016
The MBTA has announced that regular Sunday service schedules for commuter rail lines have resumed following an Amtrak signal failure this morning. All commuter rail trains are scheduled to run tomorrow on normal weekday schedules.
In the wake of an Amtrak signal failure today which impacted train arrivals and departures at South Station, the MBTA and Keolis would like to thank customers for their patience. The Amtrak problem this morning caused commuter rail delays and cancellations and led to some bus shuttles being activated.
Today’s Amtrak problem was caused by Amtrak personnel who were doing maintenance work and the MBTA will continue to monitor Amtrak activities in an effort to ensure the situation does not reoccur.
Officials with the MBTA and MassDOT have conveyed their displeasure to Amtrak and will be meeting soon to discuss Amtrak changing operational and communication protocols. Amtrak was performing maintenance work on dispatch and signal systems and failed to communicate with the MBTA and Keolis about the activities.
Monday’s commuter rail trains will be running on weekday schedules tomorrow and the MBTA and MassDOT encourage the public to use mass transit for Patriot’s Day events including the Boston Marathon. For information on service schedules please visit www.MBTA.com.
