BOSTON – MBTA General Manager Dr. Beverly Scott announced today that the “Countdown Clocks”, alerting riders to when the next train is expected to arrive, are now up and running at 51 of the 53 stations on the Blue, Orange, and Red lines. The remaining two stations are currently undergoing station improvements.
“We have received overwhelming response from customers that they love the Countdown Clock system,” said General Manager Scott. “This type of service alleviates some of the stress of commuting and I’m thrilled we can bring this innovative service to even more of our riders.”
The Innovation and Technology departments of the MBTA have been working to improve Countdown accuracy and its performance during delays. This latest round of software enhancements improves the countdown accuracy at and near the beginnings of subway lines. These improvements will give customers an elevated Countdown experience.
“At the MBTA, we firmly believe that innovation and technology are the keys to improving service for our customers,” said Gary Foster, Chief Technology Officer of the MBTA. “As we grow the Countdown service, I’m happy to say we are also improving it; bringing information faster and more accurately to our riders.”
The two remaining stations left to receive the “Countdown Clocks” are Charles/MGH and Orient Heights. The station improvement completion date for Charles / MGH is Fall 2013 and completion of Orient Heights is slated for Spring 2014.
