MBTA Announces Service Schedule for Tall Ships Weekend and July 4, 2012

The MBTA has announced its service schedule for the Fourth of July holiday weekend, Friday, June 29, through Sunday, July 1, and Wednesday, July 4, 2012.
During Boston's Tall Ships Festival this Fourth of July weekend, the MBTA will accommodate thousands of additional visitors as they travel through the Boston area.
Customers are urged to take public transportation to and from Fourth of July events and advised to check T-Alerts and mbta.com for the most up-to-date service information during the holiday weekend. Buying your return CharlieTicket at the beginning of your trip is strongly encouraged and will help to avoid long lines during your holiday travels.
*Special Event Shuttle Buses:
JFK to Castle Island
$3.00 per roundtrip
$1.00 per Senior, TAP, Student roundtrip
Cash fare accepted
Friday, June 29: 8:00 AM - 5:30 PM (last trip from Castle Island is at 5:30 PM)
Saturday, June 30: 7:00 AM - 1:30 PM (last trip from Castle Island is at 1:30 PM)
Wednesday, July 4: 7:00 AM - 4:30 PM (last trip from Castle Island is at 4:30 PM)
*At JFK Station on the Red Line, shuttle buses will be available in the JFK busway for customers traveling directly to Castle Island for the Tall Ships Festival. Customers are strongly encouraged to use cash for their roundtrip admittance.
*On Wednesday, July 4, 2012, a separate bus shuttle will run from the parking lot of the Bayside Expo Center to Castle Island from 7:00 AM - 4:30 PM (last trip from Castle Island is at 4:30 PM). Roundtrip pricing is $3.00.
Subway
To accommodate the additional holiday ridership, additional subway trips will be added throughout the holiday weekend and on Wednesday, July 4, 2012.

Silver Line
To accommodate the additional holiday ridership, the Silver Line will be making extra service trips between the hours of 8:00 AM - 10:00 PM, Saturday, June 30 - Thursday, July 5.

Route 09 - From Broadway to City Point: 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM
Route 93 - From Haymarket to Charlestown Navy Yard: 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM
*The closest stops to Castle Island on Route 7 and Route 9 will be:
Inbound: P/Broadway Outbound: Farragut/Broadway
*Customers can utilize the Route 8 bus to JFK to access the shuttle to Castle Island. Extra service will be provided on Saturday, June 30, and on Wednesday, July 4, from 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM.
*The Route 93 bus will not make any service stops through the Navy Yard during the Tall Ships week, Friday, June 30 - Wednesday, July 4.

Commuter Rail
*Commuter Rail service WILL OPERATE on the Plymouth/Kingston and Greenbush Lines on Sunday, July 1, and on Wednesday, July 4, 2012, to accommodate customers during the holiday weekend. The Needham Line WILL OPERATE on Wednesday, July 4, 2012, as well.
*All Middleboro/Lakeville, Kingston/Plymouth, and Greenbush Line trains will be making unscheduled stops to accommodate customers boarding and departing at JFK/UMass Station.

Fare and Service Changes
Effective July 1, 2012, MBTA fare and service changes begin. Information on the fare and service changes can be found here.
Bicycles
Bicycles are not allowed on any subway lines, all day, on the Fourth of July. Bicycles are not allowed on inbound Commuter Rail trains from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM or on outbound trains after 4:00 PM.
Walking
South Station and North Station are roughly a twenty minute walk from the Fish Pier and Charlestown Navy Yard. If weather permits, enjoy a scenic walk through Boston as you travel to view the Tall Ships this July 4th weekend!
