MBTA’s Rider Oversight Committee Accepting Applications

Posted on November 3, 2011

The MBTA, in close cooperation with transit advocacy organizations, formed a very unique group, the MBTA Rider Oversight Committee (ROC) in March of 2004. This organization is a diverse group of riders, members of advocacy groups, and MBTA employees who provide recommendations to the MBTA and communicates the needs and concerns of all riders.

The MBTA is seeking individuals with a strong interest in transit issues and a willingness to make a firm commitment to the Committee’s mission to fill current vacancies on the ROC. We require that you be able to commit to attending a minimum of two meetings each month for a total of 3.5 to 4.0 hours per month. Currently, the Rider Oversight Committee meets on the last Monday of each month (except holidays) from 5:00pm to 7:00pm in the State Transportation Building. Each member also attends at least one of the three topical subcommittees which meet during the first half of each month. Some members have chosen to serve on more than one subcommittee.

If you wish to be considered for a position, please provide us with the following information along with your contact information:

  1. How often do you use the MBTA and which service?
  2. What is your primary reason for using the MBTA?
  3. How long have you been using the MBTA?
  4. What do you think are the most important issues facing the MBTA?
  5. What are some improvements that could be implemented in the near-term and long-term?
  6. What can you contribute to the Committee?

Please send your responses by December 7, 2011 to the Committee’s Manager, Darrin McAuliffe at: darrin.mcauliffe@state.ma.us or to his attention at: MassDOT, 10 Park Plaza, Suite 4160, Boston, MA 02116.
