MBTA Website Wins The Webby Award

Posted on May 1, 2007

The MBTA's all new website, launched just four months ago, has been named the Best Government Website by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences.  Widely regarded as the Internet version of the Oscars, the Webbys honor excellence in innovation and comprehensiveness.

MBTA General Manager Daniel A. Grabauskas said the new website was the direct result of input received from T customers.  "After announcing our plans last year to redesign the website, the MBTA received more than 5,000 comments and suggestions from our customers.  I can't thank them enough for the active role they played in bringing this new website to fruition."

Grabauskas also pointed out that the T incorporated ideas and elements from the websites of other transit agencies as it developed the new MBTA website, which today has the most functionality of any transit website in the world.  The functions include, but are not limited to, the increasingly popular trip planning tool, interactive maps, personalization (myMBTA), on-line fare purchases, downloads to wireless devices, and service alerts.

The website is currently averaging more than 43,000 individual visitors per weekday.
