William A. Mitchell, Jr

On October 30, 2009 Governor Patrick and Secretary and CEO Jeffrey Mullan named William A. Mitchell, Jr. Acting Rail & Transit Administrator of MassDOT. He is currently the Acting General Manager of the MBTA.  For the last fourteen years, Mr. Mitchell served as the MBTA General Counsel, supervising the Law Department and providing legal counsel to all levels of the Authority. He also spent fourteen years in the Office of the Massachusetts Attorney General, where he served as Chief of the Civil Trial Bureau, and worked under Attorneys General Francis Bellotti, James Shannon, and Scott Harshbarger.  Additionally, he practiced in a private law firm that handled both civil and criminal litigation matters.

Mr. Mitchell is a graduate of Suffolk University Law School and a lifetime resident of Quincy, Massachusetts.  He is married with two children.
