Capital Investment Program
How the T is investing in public transit
The MBTA's Capital Investment Program (CIP) is a rolling five-year plan, which outlines our current infrastructure needs and details our planned investments. It is used to implement the Program for Mass Transportation, a 25-year plan for future investments in the MBTA.
The CIP focuses mainly on improvements and upgrades to vehicles, stations, tracks, signals, power systems, bridges, tunnels, and maintenance facilities which increase system reliability and safety. Also included are initiatives to enhance customer service and accessibility improvements that will benefit all of our riders.
