Weekend Shuttle Buses Starting August 5th on Lowell Commuter Rail Line

 Lowell Line bus schedule
Lowell Line Shuttle Bus Pick-up & Drop-off Locations

What’s going on?

From August 5 – October 1, there will be no train service on weekends while we install a new train safety control system on the Lowell Commuter Rail line. This is a federally-mandated upgrade that will prevent human error, and reduce train collisions and derailments. To effectively meet deadlines required by the Federal Railroad Administration the MBTA must shutdown weekend service beginning August 5, 2017.

When? And how will it impact service?

Weekends, from August 5 through October 1, 2017

  • Trains will not run.
  • The MBTA will use bus shuttles to transport riders Saturdays and Sundays on the Lowell Line.

Weekday service will not be impacted.

How much do I pay and where do I get a ticket?

Lowell bus shuttle tickets are $4 one-way. Monthly passes accepted.
Tickets can be purchased:

  • Onboard the bus with a credit card.
  • At the North Station Ticket Office
  • At the Charlie van outside North Station on the corner of Haverhill and Causeway Streets.

Senior/TAP customers pay half-fare of $2. Two children 11 and under ride free with 1 adult.
