Winter Weather Update - January 27-28, 2015

The MBTA is working tirelessly to recover from the blizzard and will restore service for the morning commute. All MBTA services, including rapid transit, buses and commuter lines, are set to resume operations on Wednesday morning at their usual start times. However, commuters are cautioned that due to heavy snowfall and high winds, it will likely be a slow start with delays expected for the morning commute.

Despite the hard work of more than a thousand workers over the last 24 hours, MBTA services will be affected by the heavy snow, icy conditions, and frigid temperatures. Some Commuter Rail and subway trains may be delayed or cancelled while some buses may operate on Snow Routes. The Mattapan Trolley Line will be replaced by bus service Wednesday. Commuter Rail customers should be aware that some of the more than 130 parking lots will have less capacity than normal, as crews continue to plow and remove snow all around the system. Because RIDE service will be affected by road conditions, paratransit customers are urged to stay in contact with their specific service provider. Ferry service is expected to operate on a regular weekday schedule.

Customers are strongly advised to plan for extra travel time, dress appropriately, and to check for the most current service information before starting their commutes. Service information can be found at the MBTA's winter resource hub: mbta.com/winter. Customers are also urged to check T-Alerts regularly for updates or to join our 93,000 followers on Twitter @MBTA. For Commuter Rail updates, we ask commuters to follow the MBTA Commuter Rail on Twitter @MBTA_CR.

MBTA personnel will do everything possible to minimize disruptions but we ask for patience as we work to safely recover in the storm’s aftermath.

The parking snow day policy is in effect for Wednesday, January 28, 2015. Please check the MBTA Winter Parking page for more information. Additionally, in order to enhance snow removal efforts, customers are prohibited from parking overnight at any MBTA station parking lots until further notice. Overnight parking in MBTA parking garages is permitted from 6 p.m. on January 26 until 5 a.m. January 28 with the following daily rates:

  • $4/day at Lynn Station
  • $5/day at Beverly, Salem, and Wonderland Stations
  • $6/day at Woodland Station
  • $7/day at Alewife, Braintree, Quincy Adams, and Route 128 Stations
