Superintendent-in-Chief Joseph O’Connor
Joseph O′Connor serves as the Superintendent-in-Chief of the Department. He joined the MBTA Transit Police Department in 1990 after serving as a police officer for the Towns of Dennis and Winchester in Massachusetts. Superintendent O′Connor has risen through the ranks of the Department and has held various positions and commands throughout his career. Superintendent O′Connor has experience working with diverse communities and has demonstrated a strong commitment to community policing. In addition to developing policing strategies to address crime and disorder, he oversees a number of initiatives to secure the nation′s fifth largest transit system from the threat of terrorism.
Superintendent O'Connor holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Curry College and a Master of Criminal Justice Degree from Boston University. He is a graduate of the F.B.I. National Academy Session #241 and has also attended the Police Executive Research Forum′s Senior Management Institute for Police.
