Orange Line Haymarket North Signal Replacement Project
The Orange Line Haymarket North Signal Replacement project, awarded to the joint venture of J.F. White Contracting Co. and SYSTRA Consulting Inc., replaced the Authority's existing Orange Line signal system with a fully functional state-of-the-art signal system from Chinatown to Oak Grove. Included as part of this project was the installation of new switch machines, train stop devices, track circuits, signal rooms, and cabling throughout the project limits. The installation of this new system has significantly improved system reliability and throughput while at the same time allowing for increased operational flexibility.
This project commenced in March 28, 2004, the duration of which, took approximately four (4) years to completely install and test.
The joint venture of J.F. White Contracting Co. and SYSTRA Consulting Inc. was allowed to early access the right of way from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Sunday through Friday, for three (3) consecutive construction seasons as follows:
March 28, 2004 to November 15, 2004
March 1, 2005 to November 15, 2005
March 1, 2006 to November 15, 2006
In addition to Early Access, the contractor was granted several weekend diversions during the three (3) year construction season, all of which were scheduled through the Subway Operations Department. Other than Early Access and Weekend Diversions, the contractor was allowed to work normal non-revenue hours for the duration of the project.
