In cooperation with Chrysler Corporation, the MBTA is testing 10 Ram plug – in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs). They are used by MBTA electricians, plumbers and pipefitters, and other maintenance personnel as they perform work on the system.
The MBTA purchased 25 new 60 foot hybrid buses that run on some of the high capacity urban routes. The buses use the latest technology and a combination of ultra low sulfur diesel and battery power.
The MBTA has installed a sophisticated remote sensing system to analyze the emissions of the bus fleet to make sure the buses are running at peak efficiency to consume the least amount of fuel and emit the lowest amount of harmful emissions. Each bus is tested on average of four times per year. By performing tests we can identify buses that are emitters and bring them into the shop for service and inspection to find and correct the problem.
